Jo’s story

Jo was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in Jan 2025 and is currently on her 3rd round of chemotherapy.

“It was a complete shock when diagnosed as I had no outward symptoms and felt well. Hearing that you have months to live (if there are no interventions) when you still feel well is something I will never quite get over. My husband and daughters received the news in shock. All have been incredibly understanding and supportive.

I was inspired by watching the London marathon and thought I could at least do 5k steps each day, raise money and give back whilst I can. The walking has given me a daily focus. I’ve been bowled over by the generosity of people. Many people have offered to walk with me. Some I haven’t seen for years!

I am currently benefiting from research into AML. Research doesn’t happen without funding and I hope the little I have raised will help someone else in the future.”
